Design and build your own transducers.These full bridge strain gages might beused to design transducers for beamsthat have a contraflexure point.Contraflexure is defined as a point in astructure where bending occurs inopposite directions. This may also bedescribed as a reversed bending beam,or a double bending beam. The 4 gridsare linear, all in the same direction.Look up the modulus of elasticity andthe yield strength of your material, anddesign the spring element so that youwill be working in the linear portion ofthe stress-strain curve. For best resultsuse stainless steel or aluminum andmatch the strain gage temperature characteristics. You may use these fullbridge strain gages for bending strainapplications where only one side of thebeam is available for strain gageinstallation. These gages are easy towork with as the carrier piece has all4 strain gages for fast and easyinstallation. Having one carrier withmultiple strain gages offers severaladvantages. Alignment of the 4 straingages with respect to each other isalready done. Some of the strain gagesshare common ribbon leads or SolderPadss which saves wiring steps andvaluable time. The corners of theWheatstone bridge at the signal outputhave been left open so that sensor performance can be tested andimproved. Zero temperaturecompensation resistors and zerobalance compensation resistors can beeasily added into the open corners ofthe Wheatstone bridge circuit. An extrabondable terminal pad can be placed atthe open corner so that the appropriateresistors can be wired in. Or you cansimply connect your 4 leads(+Excitation, -Excitation, +Signal,-Signal) and jumper the signal leadstogether as needed to complete theWheatstone bridge. Power up yourtransducer, and calibrate it with a knownapplied load.
