Description

The DIN-100 Sensor to ComputerModules are a family of dataacquisition modules that convertanalog input signals to serial dataand transmit via RS-485 to a masterunit which may be a computer orother processor-based equipment.The modules can measuretemperature, bridge inputs, voltage,current, digital input or digital outputsignals. The modules provide directconnection to a wide variety ofsensors and perform all signalconditioning, scaling, linearizationand conversion to either linearizedASCII data values or Modbus RTUdata values. Features such asaddress, baud rate, parity, echo,etc., are selectable using simplecommands from your serial port.

The selections are stored innonvolatile EEPROM whichmaintains data even after poweris removed.

The key to the DIN-100 Series isthat the modules are easy to use.You do not need engineeringexperience in complicated dataacquisition hardware. With thesemodules, anyone familiar with apersonal computer can construct adata acquisition system. Thismodular approach to dataacquisition is extremely flexible,easy to use and cost effective. Datais acquired on a per channel basisso you only buy as many channelsas you need. The modules can bemixed and matched to fit yourapplication. They can be placedremote from the host and from eachother. You can string up to 247modules on a twisted pair of wiresby using RS-485 with repeaters.

All modules are supplied with screwterminal plug connectors. Theconnectors allow system expansion,reconfiguration or repair withoutdisturbing field wiring. No chargeutility software is available to makethe DIN-100 modules easier to learnand use.

THEORY OF OPERATION
Each module is a complete singlechanneldata acquisition system.Each unit contains analog signalconditioning circuits optimized for aspecific input type. Sensor signalsare converted to digital data with amicroprocessor-controlledintegrating A/D converter. Offsetand gain errors in the analogcircuitry are continuously monitoredand corrected using microprocessortechniques. The DIN-100 moduleconverts the digital signal data andstores the resultant data in amemory buffer. The modulescontinuously convert data at the rateof 8 conversions per second andstore the latest result in the buffer.

Host processors may request databy sending a query to the module.The DIN-100 module will instantlyrespond by communicating thememory buffer data back to the hostprocessor. Up to 247 modules maybe linked to a single RS-485 port.Each module on a serial line isidentified by a unique userprogrammableaddress. Thisaddressing technique allowsmodules to be interrogated in anyorder.

DIGITAL INPUTS/OUTPUTS
DIN-170 digital output modulescontain open-collector transistorswitches that may be controlled bythe host processors. Theseswitches may be used to controlsolid-state relays which in turn maycontrol heaters, pumps and otherpower equipment. The digital inputsmay be read by the host processorand used to sense the state ofremote digital signals. They areideal for sensing the state of limit orsafety switches.

DIGITAL FILTER
The DIN-100 analog input modulesinclude two unique programmablesingle pole digital filters. The filter isused to smooth analog data in noisyenvironments. Separate timeconstants may be specified for smalland large signal changes. Typicallya large time constant is specified forsmall signal changes to filter outnoise and provide stable outputreadings. A smaller time constantmay be chosen for large signalchanges to provide fast response tosuch changes.

UTILITY SOFTWARE
Complimentary Utility Software isincluded with each purchase order.The software is compatible withWindows XP, Vista, 7 and 8operating systems and distributedon CD-ROM. The Utility Softwaresimplifies configuration of all user-selectableoptions such as deviceaddress, baud rate and filteringconstants. The latest version of thesoftware is always downloadablefrom our web site.

PROCESS CONTROL SOFTWARE
Modbus RTU protocol is supportedby virtually all commercial processcontrol software programs availabletoday.
