Description

The OMB-DBK5 current-outputcard provides OMB-DAQBOARD-2000Series data acquisitionsystems with the ability to controlfour isolated 4 to 20 mA currentloops. The OMB-DBK5 acts as acurrent loop transmitter bymodulating current from an externalsource. The OMB-DBK5 can beprogrammed with a static valuewhenever the data acquisitionsystem is not transferring A/D data.As many as sixty-four OMB-DBK5’scan be used in one system, toobtain up to 256 outputs.

Architecture
Each of the OMB-DBK5’s channelscontains a 12-bit D/A converter toset the loop current. All channelsare optically isolated from the dataacquisition system and from oneanother by 500 V.

Current Loop
The OMB-DBK5 is compatible withregulated or unregulated loopsupplies of 12 to 45 Vdc. It alsoprovides compliance with loopresistances of up to 1950 ohms,depending on the source magnitude.

Current Loop-Powered Outputs
Since the isolated outputs of theOMB-DBK5 are loop powered, thecard maintains control of the loopcurrent even when the dataacquisition system is powered down.When loop power is first applied, theOMB-DBK5’s outputs assume their4 mA default state. If at any time thedata acquisition system’s power islost or communication with the dataacquisition system fails, theOMB-DBK5’s outputs retain theirlast set values.
